How to Use Score Variables in Quizell

Introduction

Score variables allow you to create and manage multiple scoring systems within a single quiz.

Instead of relying on a single score, you can:

  • Track different scoring dimensions (e.g. skin type, preferences, intent)
  • Assign values per answer for each variable
  • Use these variables in your results and personalization

This is especially useful for advanced logic, segmentation, and more precise recommendations.

Step-by-step guide

1. Open your quiz settings

  • Open your quiz in the editor
  • In the left sidebar, click Settings

2. Open the variable manager

  • In the top menu, navigate to Score
  • Click Manage Variables

This is where you create and manage your score variables.

3. Create a new score variable

  • In the popup, enter a name for your variable
  • Click Add New Variable

  • Your variable will now appear in the variables list.
  • Select the variable to add it to your Quiz Scoring options.

Note: You can create multiple variables depending on your use case.

4. Assign values to your variable

Once your variable is created:

  • You will see a new column appear next to your default score
  • For each answer option, enter a value for the new variable

This allows you to track different scoring dimensions per answer.

Example:

  • “Oily” → 4
  • “Dry” → 1

5. Save your scoring setup

  • Click Save Changes

Your variable scoring is now active.

6. Display score variables in your results

To use your variables in the quiz output:

  • Go to your results page, thank you page or static page (based on your setup)
  • Click on the text element
  • Click Personalization

In the personalization panel:

  • Select Score and/or your custom variable
  • Click Insert

Your score and the variable will be added dynamically to your text.

Example:

  • Your first score is {{score}}
  • Your second score is {{variable_name}}

That’s it!

You’ve created and configured score variables and can now use them dynamically in your quiz.

What happens next

With score variables in place, you can:

  • Build more advanced quiz logic
  • Segment users based on multiple criteria
  • Display personalized results using different scoring dimensions
  • Improve product or service recommendations

All variables can be reused across your quiz flow and results.

Best practices

Use clear and descriptive variable names

  • Example: skin_type_score, budget_score

Keep scoring consistent across questions

  • Avoid mixing scales (e.g. 1–5 and 1–100)

Start simple

  • Add more variables only when needed

Test your scoring logic

  • Submit test responses to validate outputs

Troubleshooting

I don’t see my variable in the results

  • Make sure you added it via the Personalization panel
  • Confirm you clicked Save Changes

Scores are not calculating correctly

  • Check that all answer options have assigned values
  • Review your scoring consistency across questions

I added a variable but no column appears

  • Refresh the page or reopen the Score tab
  • Ensure the variable was successfully created
