Understanding AI Sales Agent Credits & Billing
Introduction
The Quizell AI Sales Agent runs on credits — a prepaid balance you spend on live conversations with visitors. The Billing page is where you check your balance, top up, and set up auto-recharge so your agent never goes offline.
This guide explains how credits are charged, where to manage them, and how to keep your agent running smoothly.
How credits are charged
A few simple rules govern how credits are spent:
- Credits are spent per AI agent conversation. Each live conversation draws from your balance.
- Longer conversations cost more. The more back-and-forth a conversation involves, the higher the cost.
- Your plan affects the rate. The higher your plan, the lower the credit cost per conversation — so heavier usage is more economical on a higher plan.
- Preview testing is free. Chatting with your agent in the dashboard preview doesn't consume any credits, so you can test as much as you like before going live.
Where to find your billing
- In your Quizell dashboard, open the left sidebar
- Click AI Agent → Billing

Step-by-step guide
1. Check your credit balance
At the top of the Billing page, the Credit balance card shows your remaining balance in dollars. Below it, the Credits Usage chart shows how your spending has trended over time — useful for spotting busy periods or sudden spikes.
2. Buy credits
To top up your balance:
- Click Buy Credits on the Credit balance card
- Choose an amount and complete the purchase
Your new balance is available right away.
3. Set up auto-recharge
Auto-recharge keeps your agent running by topping up your balance automatically, so conversations never stop because you ran out of credits.
- On the Credit balance card, click Manage
- In the Auto-recharge settings window, toggle Auto-recharge on
- Set When credit balance reaches — the threshold that triggers a top-up (e.g., $5)
- Set Bring credit balance back up to — the amount to top up to (e.g., $20)
- Click Save
When your balance drops below your chosen threshold, Quizell automatically tops it back up to the target amount.

That's it!
You now know how credits work and how to keep your agent funded. 🎉
Best practices
- Turn on auto-recharge. It's the simplest way to make sure your agent never stops mid-conversation because the balance hit zero.
- Keep conversations efficient. Since longer conversations cost more, tight Instructions and a thorough FAQ that resolve questions quickly also keep your costs down.
- Upgrade if you're at volume. A higher plan lowers your cost per conversation — worth comparing if your agent is busy.
- Test in preview first. Preview testing is free, so refine your agent there before live conversations start drawing on your balance.
- Watch the usage chart. Check Credits Usage periodically so spikes don't surprise you.
Important notes
- Credits are separate from preview testing, which is always free. Only live conversations with real visitors consume credits.
- Cost per conversation depends on conversation length and your plan (higher plan = lower cost per conversation).
- If your balance reaches zero and auto-recharge is off, your agent may stop responding to visitors — enable auto-recharge or top up to avoid interruptions.
Troubleshooting
My agent stopped responding to visitors
- Check your credit balance under AI Agent → Billing. If it's depleted, click Buy Credits to top up, and consider enabling auto-recharge.
My credit usage is higher than expected
- Longer conversations cost more. Review the Credits Usage chart, and tighten your Instructions and FAQ so the agent resolves questions efficiently.
Auto-recharge isn't topping up my balance
- Open Manage → Auto-recharge settings and confirm the toggle is on and both threshold values are set and saved.
