How to Use the “Other” Answer Option in Your Quiz

Introduction

The “Other” option allows you to collect custom, open-ended answers from users when predefined choices are not enough.

This is useful when:

  • You want to capture edge cases or unique responses
  • You don’t want to limit users to fixed options
  • You want to gather additional qualitative insights

When selected, users can type their own answer directly inside the quiz.

Step-by-step guide

1. Open your question settings

  • Open your quiz in the editor
  • Select the question where you want to add the option

2. Add the “Other” option

  • In the left panel, scroll to the Answer Options section
  • Click Add “Other” Option

This will automatically add an “Other” choice to your question.

3. Preview the experience

  • Click Preview (top right)
  • Select the Other option

You will see an input field appear where users can type their own answer.

4. Save your quiz

  • Click Save to apply your changes

That’s it!

Your question now includes an “Other” option with a custom input field.

What happens next

When a user selects “Other”:

  • They can enter a custom response
  • Their input is saved along with their quiz submission
  • You can view it in: Customer Profiles > Quiz Responses

This gives you additional data beyond predefined answers.

Best practices

  • Use “Other” when your answer list may not cover all cases
  • Keep your main options focused and structured
  • Use “Other” to capture long-tail insights or unexpected answers
  • Review responses regularly to identify new common patterns

You can later turn frequent “Other” responses into standard options.

Important notes

  • “Other” adds a free-text input field to your question
  • The response is stored as part of the user’s quiz data

Troubleshooting

The input field does not appear

  • Make sure you selected the Other option in preview
  • Confirm the option was added and saved

Responses are missing

  • Check the Customer Profiles section
  • Open a submission and expand the question

Closing

You can now collect custom user input using the “Other” option, giving you more flexibility and deeper insights from your quizzes.
