How to Publish Your Quiz to a Custom Domain

Introduction

By default, your Quizell quiz lives on a Quizell URL. With the Quiz Domain feature, you can publish it to your own custom domain instead — so the quiz feels like a natural, integrated part of your website rather than a separate link.

You can use either a subdomain (like quiz.yourwebsite.com) or your main domain (like yourwebsite.com). Either way, the setup takes two parts: adding the domain in Quizell, and pointing it to Quizell with a small DNS record.

Before you start

You'll need access to your domain's DNS settings (through your domain registrar or DNS provider — e.g. GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare).
DNS changes can take some time to take effect (anywhere from a few minutes up to 24–48 hours).

Step 1: Open your quiz settings

Open your quiz in the editor
In the left sidebar, click Settings

Step 2: Go to the Quiz Domain tab

In the Settings top menu, click Quiz Domain. You'll see the Your Quiz Domain panel.

Step 3: Choose subdomain or main domain

At the top of the panel, choose how you want to publish:

Subdomain — serve your quiz from a subdomain, such as quiz.yourwebsite.com
Main Domain — serve your quiz from your primary domain, such as yourwebsite.com

Step 4: Enter your domain and add it

In the Enter Domain to Use field, type the domain (or subdomain) you want to use
Click Add Domain

Step 5: Add the CNAME record to your DNS

After you add the domain, Quizell shows you the DNS record you need to create. Go to your domain's DNS settings and add a CNAME record with these values:

Record Type	Host	Target
CNAME	your domain (e.g. `yourwebsite.com`)	`web.quizell.com`

This points your domain to Quizell so your quiz can be served from it. You can use the copy icons next to the Host and Target values to copy them exactly.

Step 6: Verify

Once you've saved the CNAME record at your DNS provider, give it time to propagate, then return to Quizell to complete verification. When the domain is verified, your quiz will be live on your custom domain.

Your quiz is now published on your own domain and feels like a seamless part of your website. 🎉

Best practices

Use a subdomain if you're not sure. A subdomain like quiz.yourwebsite.com is usually the simplest and most reliable option, and it keeps your quiz cleanly separated from the rest of your site.
Copy the values exactly. Use the copy icons for the Host and Target so there are no typos.
Be patient with DNS. If verification fails right after you add the record, wait a while and try again — DNS propagation isn't instant.

Important notes

The Target for your CNAME record is always web.quizell.com.
yourwebsite.com shown in the panel is a placeholder — replace it with your actual domain.
You'll add the CNAME record at your domain registrar / DNS provider, not inside Quizell.

Troubleshooting

My domain won't verify

Double-check the CNAME record's Host and Target values match exactly what Quizell shows.
DNS changes can take up to 24–48 hours to propagate — wait and try verifying again.

My DNS provider won't let me add a CNAME on my root domain

Some providers don't allow a CNAME on a root/main domain. In that case, use a subdomain instead, or use your provider's equivalent record (often called ALIAS or ANAME) if they offer one.

I already had a record on that domain

Make sure the new CNAME doesn't conflict with an existing record for the same host. Remove or update the conflicting record if needed.
